Orton Gillingham Literacy Tutoring
Through a multi-sensory structured language program, Nicole provides structured, personalized, 1:1 instruction that builds critical reading skills.

The goal is to teach struggling readers to decode text and attain fluency skills at an age-appropriate developmental level. Early identification followed by early instruction is the key to meeting and exceeding expectations in a child’s academic development.

The Orton-Gillingham approach is structured, sequenced, and personalized for the learner. It is an approach that continually evolves as it is based on the science of how we learn to read. The approach employs methods recommended by the International Dyslexia Association.
Level B Literacy Assessments
A Level B literacy assessment is a diagnostic academic assessment that includes measures that screen for dyslexia. A literacy assessment can be done as early as age 4 through to adulthood. It includes assessment for phonological awareness and phonemic awareness, among other foundational reading skills, and allows for targeted intervention and support during subsequent tutoring sessions.
Completion of a literacy assessment includes conversation with the caregiver(s) and child or youth, administration of a series of measures to identify strengths and areas of challenge, and subsequently, sharing of the results with the caregiver(s) and child or youth. All assessments are completed personally by Nicole, a qualified Level B Assessor.
A report will be provided describing the results of the assessment, your child or youth’s strengths and areas of challenge in terms of literacy development, recommendations, and resources to support next steps. The report can be shared with the school team to support classroom instruction for your child or youth.
What a literacy assessment is not:

-
Nicole is not a registered clinical psychologist. A literacy assessment is not a full psycho-educational assessment. A literary assessment does not include measures of full cognitive ability, attentional, executive, or behavioural functional abilities, grapho-motor and visual-motor integration abilities, socio-emotional functioning, or mental well-being. It does not include career testing. It does not assess for ADHD or autism spectrum or other diverse needs.

If you are interested in a full psycho-educational assessment, Nicole can provide the names of registered clinical psychologists who provide these services.
